I know you had dreams of a better future. You had hoped that by now you’ld have gotten so far. But it seems like you got stuck as time flew by. You look into your lover’s face, you no longer see the admiration you used to see… “Perhaps she has lost respect for me”, the thought flashes through your mind.
You stay up late at night to think but you come up with nothing. You are scared. Sometimes, you wish night would last forever and day wouldn’t come, so the neighbours do not see you working so hard yet having little to spend.
And there’s the in-laws who would never fail to remind you of your status. Mama would often make scathing remarks about how her daughter is getting leaner and “dry like a withering leaf” while Papa totally ignores you.
“How did I get myself into this mess”… You wonder? You had wanted to wait to be sure you had more than enough before marriage. But you weren’t getting any younger and neither was she. ‘Konji’ too was knocking. In between the devil and deep blue sea, you chose to plunge into the deep blue sea damning the consequences. It was easier swimming alone, you had to keep only you alive but there’s a partner now… ain’t so easy anymore.
However, I am here to remind you to take a firm grip on your family and stay focused. Don’t be discouraged by all you see around. Don’t lose faith. Keep getting up and showing up. Keep putting in the work.
Like a wise man once wrote, ” If you’re diligent at what you do and you keep doing good, somehow you’ll arrive at that future. Even you won’t know how you got there. No one can know. Who could have fathomed Bill Gates would become what he became. Not even the man. The man was not that visionary. He didn’t even see the internet coming! What we do know is that he took what was in his hands seriously and he somehow arrived at his future.
Take whatever is committed into your hands seriously. Treat it like it’s all you’ve got! It’s about those values… Diligence, hardworking, resilience, loyalty, faithfulness and honesty.. Yes, things like skill, intellect, learning and networking matter, but those values are the real subtext.”
Stay on your path. It’s a futile effort comparing your journey to another. You’ll drain yourself of energy needed for productive thinking. Focus on your life and believe in your unfolding greatness.
You win in life.
